Penn Entertainment Tops All-Index DEI Rankings

Penn Entertainment Tops All-Index DEI Rankings

Penn Entertainment achieved the top position in the upcoming All-Index report, thanks to the All-In Diversity Project.

The nonprofit group assesses diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the gaming sector. The index and the corresponding survey provide ways to emphasize operators’ advantages and shortcomings concerning DEI.

"The All-Index is an annual survey open to any business within a specific global industry that measures diversity, inclusion and belonging across their organisation. All participants get a score of 1-100 upon completion to be used as a baseline and benchmark for strategic and stakeholder planning as well as identifying key aims and objectives for the year ahead and beyond,” according to All-In.

The organization observed that Penn, the biggest operator of regional casinos, led the rankings, with Entain and International Game Technology (IGT) in second and third place. Last year, the leading position was held by slot machine titan Aristocrat, followed by Sweden's Betsson, while Kindred and IGT shared the third place. The complete rankings for this year will be published later in this quarter.

DEI in Casino Sector Spotlight

In recent times, DEI has emerged as a more significant element of the corporate language as businesses from various sectors strive to diversify their teams.

A key factor motivating the DEI movement is the belief that organizations with greater gender and racial diversity adopt new viewpoints and may outperform their less diverse rivals.

“The All-Index sets an annual benchmark for diversity, equality, and inclusion across various industry sectors. Participation is always free and we benchmark your progress for as long as your organisation participates,” notes the index provider.

Alongside the previously mentioned gaming firms, members of the All-In Diversity Project comprise FanDuel's parent company, Flutter Entertainment, Light & Wonder, Meta, the owner of Facebook, and Playtech, among others.

DEI Encountering Challenges

Although the gaming industry has made progress in DEI, there remains work to do in this area, and the commitment of operators to diversity may be challenged as corporate America shifts its focus away from DEI.

President Trump emphasized the reestablishment of merit-based hiring and promotions for federal employees as a key focus of his 2024 campaign and signed related executive orders last week. Since that time, significant corporations like Amazon, McDonald’s, Meta, and Target, among others, announced intentions to reduce their DEI initiatives.

On the other hand, several large companies, such as Costco, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan Chase, continue to uphold their commitment to DEI.

“For our employees, these efforts are built around inclusion — having all of our employees feel valued and respected. Our efforts at diversity, equity, and inclusion remind and reinforce with everyone at our Company the importance of creating opportunities for all. We believe that these efforts enhance our capacity to attract and retain employees who will help our business succeed,” according to a recent Costco board proposal.
