Ohio Lottery Players Keep Hitting at Giant Eagle Grocery Store

In the northeastern region of the Buckeye State, a Giant Eagle grocery shop is providing Ohio lottery players with an incredible amount of success.
The Ohio Lottery said this week that one fortunate lottery player's trip to the grocery store became a momentous event. The individual, who requested anonymity, won the game's top prize of $1,000,000 after purchasing a $50 VIP Millions scratch-off.
Instead of getting the entire $1 million distributed over 25 years in $40,000 yearly increments, lottery officials claimed the winner chose to take the $500,000 one-time cash option. The gain, after state and federal taxes, came to almost $360,000.
The lucky play was bought in Massillon at the Giant Eagle grocery shop, located at 2032 E. Lincoln Way. The sale of the winning VIP Millions ticket earned the Giant Eagle store a commission of $10,000.
Giant Eagle Brings Home Massive Lottery Wins
The Ohio Lottery VIP Millions win this week was the third significant lottery victory at the same Giant Eagle location in as many months.
Just one week prior, the Ohio Lottery announced that a player who bought a $5 Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 25x scratcher had won the $150,000 top prize. The lucky play was bought in Massillon at the Giant Eagle, located at 2032 E. Lincoln Way.
After federal and state taxes, the fortunate client—who also requested anonymity—received about $108,000. The sales bonus for the Giant Eagle was $1,500.
A little over three months had passed since a $50 VIP Millions scratch-off at the grocery store sold for $20,000 before the two July hits at the Giant Eagle Massillon. After taxes, the winner's net take was around $14,400.
The Role of Superstition
Players at the Massillon Giant Eagle have been extremely fortunate in 2025, even though the precise odds of any prize being won vary and ultimately rely on the quantity of tickets sold and rewards claimed.
Similar to a slot player in a casino, lottery retailers usually enjoy a spike in sales when they sell a big win since many players believe in superstition and that a vendor's machine is hot. When a retailer sells a winning Mega Millions or Powerball prize, sales typically rise.
For this reason, lottery merchants frequently promote that they were the seller of a significant winning lottery ticket. Lottery shops profit from more post-win sales, which yield larger fees, in addition to bonuses for selling jackpots and large wins.
"As for whether a lottery vendor can truly be “hot,” that thinking is only a fallacy, so says Dr. Mark Glickman of Harvard University. However, Glickman, a senior lecturer on statistics, says playing at a lottery retailer where a major win was recently sold “also doesn’t give you any disadvantages.”
The Mega Millions drawing for tonight is worth $80 million. The Powerball jackpot for tomorrow is $234 million. The Giant Eagle in Massillon is probably going to sell a lot of tickets today and tomorrow.
